January News Wrap

I've been utterly lazy in this last month, so I'm just going to summarize all the happenings worth mentioning.

Firstly, the new manager of Politehnica is Gheorghe Balint, former asisstant manager to Gheorghe Hagi while he was at Poli. Balint managed himself teams like Sportul Studentesc and Sheriff Tiraspol and will be facing an uphill struggle, firstly with the results achieved by Dusan Uhrin, and secondly with the club's declared ambition of winning the championship.

Secondly, Poli have signed three new players: Florin Maxim (defender left, Farul Constanta), Alexandru Curtean (midfielder left/right, Gaz Metan Medias), Kevin Amuneke (midfielder left/striker, Norrkopping). Of these, Curtean will only be joining the club in the summer of 2009.

Thirdly, the first phase of the winter preparations has just ended, a phase spent in Turkey by the white-violets. There, the team played a few lowly ranked adversaries and managed the following results:

Poli - Vojvodina Novi Sad II 3:0 (1:0)
(goals by Magera, Bucur and Artiom Karamyan)

Poli - Azerbaidjan U21 6:0 (4:0)
(goals by Rusic x3, Vrsic, Parks and Ratiu)

Poli - VFB Stuttgart II 1:2 (0:1)
(goal by Goga)

Poli - Brazilian players looking for a team 4:2 (2:0)
(goals by Parks, Luchin, Bucur x2)

Poli - Goztepe Izmir 2:0 (0:0)
(goals by Parks and Bucur)

And lastly, these are the friendlies for the Spain practice phase:

February 4th - CF Malaga
February 7th - Cracovia Krakow
February 10th - Spartak Moscova
February 13th - Sparta Praga
